True, though it seems odd to me that they must've made plans to build a 50,000-seat stadium when they were sitting towards the bottom half of the second tier of the pyramid.

Regardless, "Stadium of Light" is a great name.

I'll be touring Scotland this weekend and unfortunately won't be able to watch the match (Actually... I'll be at the Celtic v. Motherwell match this weekend). For some reason I have a feeling that Fulham can squeeze out three points from this fixture. Not sure why, but I think Fulham is due.

    ------------------Niemi-------------------
    Baird--Stefonavic--Hughes--Boca
    Davis--Smertin--Davis--Bouazza
    -----------Dempsey------Healy----

Looking forward to reading the post match summary and seeing Fulham move even further up the table.

At the risk of engaging in the negativity referenced elsewhere in htis thread, I see a big ugly "L" coming up this weekend -- but at least the ranting about Baird has temporarily subsided, myself included.

Also, thanks for the info on Sunderland's early history -- they also won the league 6 times, last in 1936.

    Sunderland 2, W's 1

And if the W's bring home 3 points from the north, I will take credit for putting the big green whammy on them with my prediction.

I say it is the breeding.... and I overlooked littletinyclare's thread, because it looked like more negative nonsense. I'll go back and read it.

My favorite poster of all over there [next to our own White Witch, of course] is Grave Little Maurice. He has these slightly surreal meandering narratives that are a delight to read. Kind of like sitting in a pub with Jimmy Hill on one side and James Joyce on the other.

You forgot to mention we were winning that game 1-0, then lost the replay.(Sunderlands ONLY home win that season..) I still remember how mad I was about both fixtures. The boys certainly have something to prove this weekend. I can not even start to make a prediction. Something Fulhamish I'm guessing.

I hate to jump on the negative bandwagon but I think we'll lose on a late Sunderland goal. We'll play better than against Derby and we'll look like we should win but ultimately our D will fail us in the last 10 minutes.

RE: Re: Fulham @ Sunderland [R]

First post so I hope I get this right. I'm a American living in London and my wife and I are Fulham season ticket holders. I was at the game last weekend and have to say that the first half was dire and showed how bad we are. Second half opened up when we were down to 10 men and we played better. Niemi kept us in the game. So, bitter sweet to keep the clean sheet.

Tricky this weekend since Konchesky is out. I read today that Bouazza is out as well which is a shame since he's been one of our strongest players. They've been running the offense through him on the left until they inexplicably shifted to running it through Seol on the right last weekend. Seol has lost his confidence and currently sucks.

So, Niemi in goal. Baird, Hughes, Stafanovic, Boca across the back. Baird stinks and has to turn it around but with Volz injured, Sanchez has no options. Midfield is tough without Bouazza. Maybe Davies on the right and Dempsey back on the left. Smertin and Davis in the middle. Healy and Kamara up front. It should give us some punch, which is what we need. Maybe Murphy comes in for Smertin if they go down early.

I think we draw. A dire 1-1 is my call. Sunderland is not good.

I hate to disagree with Tom's wonderfully crafted -- as usual -- match preview, but [and may the ghost of John Lennon forgive me]

"We're gonna win this match [yes, yes, we're gonna win this match]
We're gonna WIN this match [yes, yes, we're gonna win this match]
    We're gonna win-n-n-n-n-n THIS MATCH!
We'll make a point of taking all the points away.
We've waited too long to spoil someone else's day.

[So] We're gonna win this match [yes, yes, we're gonna win this match]
We're gonna WIN this match [yes, yes, we're gonna win this match]
    We're gonna win-n-n-n-n-n THIS MATCH!"

I'm tired of all this negativity; let's have some blind faith and love for the black 'n white!

    Come on, Fulham!

    PistolChris,

Welcome and I think you may have it right, except for the final score.

    Best Regards,

    Omozusi to start.

I know soccernet isn't always accurate on starting lineups, but Baird isn't even listed as a sub (injury??). Big risk, but w/no Konch an infusion of pace in the back is just what the doctor ordered.
