A guess from another rookie ... in the BPL I believe it would be Chelsea but traditionally QPR (Queens Park Rangers).

Somebody please let me know if I have learned anything in my short-time here.

No sense to blindly hate another club, but Fulham's biggest rivals are Chelsea and QPR. Stamford Bridge is roughly a mile away from Craven Cottage so the close proximity and playing in the same division creates an obvious rivalry.

Lesser rivalries stem from other London clubs such as Tottenham, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Arsenal...

Chelsea is THE hated rival, known on these pages as CSKA London, Chelscum, The Blue Poo, and The Undead.

I'm sorry, but if you're gonna be a Cottager, you have to LOVE IT when the scum loses, especially when we beat them [1-0 Boa Morte] or even draw against them on their pitch [2-2 McBride, Bocanegra].

Yep it seems QPR and Chelsea are the two. Everyone around here loves to beat Chelsea but Chelsea fans don't really seemed to bothered by us. Contrastly it seems QPR fans really hate us but we kind of brush them off. A vicious cycle.

Though apparently its common among some older Fulham supporters to also pull for Chelsea. There is some logic to that, support both your neighboorhood clubs and hate someone like West Ham. I remember reading in 4-4-2 that this was also the case in North London with Spurs and Arsenal. But evidently times have changed and this has come and gone. Wonder why?

For me, I certainly like beating Chelsea more than the others, I'm no fan of Charlton and Portsmouth either.

Plus it always makes me laugh, such as the site of many dancing bananas in a post, to hear people say or read the term 'Chelski'.

Another huge rival of ours is definitely, most definitely, Brentford. Regardless of our stature as a team, you must never forget Brentford. They hate us now, they hated us when we were languishing in the third division.

For those that are new, remember this.....Fulham has NOT always been in the Premier League. In fact, Fulham has only been in the Premier League since the 2001-2002 season.

Therefore, they spent a lot of time in the old second, third and fourth divisions. As recently as the 1995-1996 season Fulham was in the lowest league division before a series of promotions over the course of five years found the team in the Premier League.

That is why teams like Brentford, QPR and others are bitter rivals of Fulham's. There was a life outside the Premier League.

Hey cottagerinmemphis you have to understand wherever you live in England your rival will always be the closest team to you, so in this case as already been said that would be Chelsea approx 1 maybe 2 miles at most away from the cottage, Queens Park Rangers(QPR) and Brentford are both within a radius of about 5/6 miles from the cottage so again they would be deemed as rivals.
All London clubs have a rival Arsenal/Totttenham-West Ham/Millwall as do Manchester clubs United/City and teams in Liverpool...Liverpool/Everton it's just a British hate I guess. you live and learn very quickly when growing up who you like and who you dont.

I think the Rangers you are thinking about in Scotland is Glasgow Rangers, QPR Is a London Club.

Glasgow Rangers enemy would be Glasgow Celtic Known as Rangers and Celtic one game I would recommend NOT To attend especially if you wanted to live to tell the tale.

Only Glaswigeons go to this game believe me.

You have to understand tho Tom that Fulham was always a First division side before being relagated to Division 2 and then 3. The Old First Division would be a fore runner of the Premiership as we know it today, your statement is true but they were in Division One for a long time.

Martin, isn't there still a Scottish club called "Queens Park?" They used to have Hampden Park as their home pitch when they played in the old Scottish 2nd division. I used to imagine turnouts of 975 in a 80,000 capacity stadium when Queens Park played Hamilton Academicals.

I get too lost with the whole "first division" talk. But to answer your question, Yes. QPR is a CCC (Coca-Cola Championship) team who we used to play when we were not in the Prem league.

I'd like to see QPR get the promotion to the EPL just so we can have a solid rivalry to play. But if they can never make it up, I won't be praying for the Boys in White to get relegated just to make that happen.

    :p

The confusion earlier between Queens Park Rangers (QPR) and Rangers of Queens Park (Rangers) is that QPR is a London Club and Rangers is a Scottish Club.

The older folks might be able to shed more light on your question, but I believe Fulham has played against QPR in several of the old English divisions.

A "yank" way of looking at it is baseball (major leagues, AAA, AA...), Fulham played the Brentfords, QPR in the minor leagues for years. I'm sure GBFC or Don can tell us what year the name change took place (mid-90's I believe), but the Premiership was called the 1st division and so on. When Craven Cottage was being refurbished the team played its games at Loftus Road (home of Queens Park Rangers or QPR for short), so that tells you how close in proximity the 2 clubs are. For me the Scum in blue shirts w/the Russian owner are to be loathed.

The Premier League or Premiership as it was called last season, was formed before the 1992-1993 season. Before this season, the Premier League was referred to as the first division. Thus, the now Coca-Cola Championship was the old second division and so forth and so on down to the old fourth division.

As for QPR, Fulham has actually never played them in the Premier League or the old first division. They played quite a few times in ther 70s in the old second division and then in the late 20s, 30s and early 40s. This rivalry is based more on proximity than anything.

Brentford on the other hand is a fixture that was played most every season in the 80s and early to mid 90s when the two teams were battling it out in the lower divisions.
