His situation is fascinating to me. He is the most criticized player on sites like this one and TFI, and while I'm far from a football expert, I see the mistakes he makes that lead to a goal given up or at least a good chance.

However, coaches seem to like him. Like it or not, he has played for England (although I have not heard anything about him being considered lately). Both CC and LS keep playing him.

What are we missing that they're seeing or vice versa? Does his height entice managers? Does he make good plays we miss and coaches see but the one or two bonehead moves we see?

It's his size. That's really only why. They think they can mold him into a great defender, but it's too late now.

    Bingo!

But, I think at least I am noticing that some guys are just too big to play that position effectively. It is a lot harder to change direction and run backwards when you are that size.

It is possible he is a practice stud that freezes up duing the match.

No way to really know without seeing how he performs during practice.

He only played for England because there were no other English defenders available, He was the 10th choice defender. Injuries included Terry, Ferdinand, King, Gardener, My Mum....

He had real potenital, but was never smart enough. So "off to the championship" with him and be quick about it.

I am far from impressed with his play. I hate to say it, but I hope to see him go in the midseason window, if at all possible.

I say we bring Jay DeMerit back up from Watford. Oh if only.

    *sigh*

Does DeMerit Merit a Regular Spot w/ Fulham

At the risk of hijacking my own thread, is DeMerit really that good that he can come in and start for a Premiership team with defensive problems? After all, Boca is a regular starter on the US team but a semi-regular with Fulham and DeMerit is not a regular with the US team, leading me to believe that DeMerit is not as good as Boca.

If he's not ready to start, do we want to focus on getting him now? Maybe January would be a better time when we see where we are halfway through the season?

I've been calling for Zat to be shipped off the past two seasons. That pretty much sums up my opinions on the guy...
