R.I.P. Steve Jobs

Only 56 years old. What an impact on the daily lives of people around the world.

 

RIP Steve Jobs. Lost one of the greatest innovators of our time.

 

RIP - he went damn fast after his announcement. Eerily, on my flight yesterday they showed an MSNBC special on his life history (no saint by any means, but not many at his level are). I loved my first Mac.

 

He was on par with the greatest innovators in the history of this country. He will be missed because nobody can replace his brilliance. Not a fan of Apple for a number of reasons, but now isn't really the time to go on about that crap and I hope others forget about it too for now. RIP Steve Jobs.

I loved that computer. So easy to use. How frustrating it was to go out into the workplace and see nothing but PCs.

RIP Mr. Jobs

 

Totally agree there Justin, not the time for such divisions. RIP to a great innovator, a self-made man, and one this world will miss more than it can ever fathom.

Unlikely anyone at Apple, or elsewhere, will fill his shoes for the foreseeable future.


and about that video ... I was playing around on AmsTrad 8 bit Z80's at that time!!!!

 

Let's not confer sainthood on the man any more than we do Thomas J Watson or John H Patterson before him.

At that time, because of my job at Lexis, I always had two PC's on my desk.. and sometimes a Lexis terminal as well.

I got one of the ten Mac's the company bought to play with. I'd just boxed up the IBM PCjr {That's a Link btw} and sent it to who knows where.

I had it about 6 months and was even given one of those joke office awards the way you do anyone who obsesses enthusiastically.
I also had an Apple II at home and read a lot about it and the personal computer market.
Jobs did the only thing possible to advance Apple with the change of direction to the Mac. But that was the beginning of my antipathy ... not so much toward the man or the company but its target market customers.

He was a genius in innovation and creating markets* but make no mistake, he didnt invent anything. Instead he foresaw the direction of technology in the coming society.

How ironic that IBM was victim of design by committee and Apple the beneficiary of despotic leadership.

* Just to be clear, the creative and artistic market that was enthralled by the Mac didnt KNOW they needed it until Jobs targeted them... and until the famous Orwellian Superbowl commercial.

 

He was a great inventor but even greater business man. I respect all he did for technology we have today, but if we really think about it what did he actually invent that we cannot live without. Without him we would still have cell phones, computers, internet and other things, and those are things that we can live without also. In terms of inventors he is not even close to Tesla,Fleming, Dr. Salk. These people invention helped whole world and not only people who can afford 300 400 dollars for iphone and other expensive stuff apple company produced. So Jobs was a great business man because he invented things people really don't need but are going to spend 400 dollars to get. Regular cell phone works as well as iphone when calling for help. I have respect for him but reading what other people wrote about him in newspaper and said on tv is going to far. If you only heard people talking about him and didn't know who Jobs was you would think he invented pencilin or polio vaccine and he didn't. Don't get me wrong I am not happy that he died but he was not as great as people say he was speaking about his inventions, I don't know how he was like a person
