I was going to comment on this when I read it... but I figured it was just too easy, while confusing at the same time.

When Monica received a post-grad degree from London School of Economics, the Washington Post wrote a snarky piece, {female byline of course} on dumb but smart vs smart but dumb. If I had commented on that it would have been just as snarky... but it seems I wasnt the only one felt that way:
The problem you see... is that the original writer labels Monica 'Dumb but Smart' and apparently does so because the reporter feels superior to her.

But is not the CORRECT label, if you must choose, 'Smart but Dumb'?

Thats what I thought.. and so would many other apparently.

An MPhil from LSE is equal to any doctorate on this side of the water. I toyed with the idea of going for one my last time in England and decided that the level of commitment required was too much for me in my present [at the time] situation. So I have a lot of respect for anyone who "stayed the course" and got her degree.

Having said that, you can't be surprised that Lewinsky will always be viewed through the cigar/blue dress prism. Child stars are always referred to as "former child stars." All-American quarterbacks are always described as "Former football stars." Monica will always be viewed as how she "rose" to prominence, even if she changes her name to Joe Shlabotnik.

LSE has some tremendous alums including myself and a somewhat wrinkly rocker who goes by the name of Jagger. He did drop out in his first year though.

You have to feel that Monica made her own bed, so to speak, by participating in the fit-up and keeping the infamous dress with presidential stains. Its a shame really because all of the presdidents have done it, Billy was just stupid enough to get caught. Or smart enough for someone to decide he ought to be caught.

Having said all that, well done Monica!! It seems that the powers that be have riuned the life of a bright young woman whose only crime was to say, "Yes, Mr President."

well, now Glen... I wouldnt go so far as to say THAT... she certainly made a decision - poor one or not, but if she's old enough to vote...

Here's a commenter from a blog covering it Ann Althouse
And I dont think I could put it any better than that:
She's human, she made a mistake, she has dealt with it with grace... never seeking to make capital on it..{so far, anyway}.

SHE is the feminist ideal, in my view!

At the risk of sounding obtuse, she'll always be known as that chick who sucked the president's c@ck and kept the cum stained dress. Not sure the feminist movement is with you on that one.
