Same thing that's 'up' with immigration here; it rarely makes sense. If Fulham have cut some sort of deal though, can't see the work permit issue being much of a problem. The Club could already be in the appeals process. Dempsey might not have the requisite amount of caps at this stage, but the club will merely argue his age and cap-earning potential.

Not saying our system is any better, but if you can throw a 90 mile an hour fastball, hit the ball out of the park consistently, sink three pointers, or stand 7 feet tall and can dribble a basketball,.... well, Welcome to America!

However, if you're trying to risk your life to cross the border to make money for your family back in Chiapas,.... Cuidado, Amigo.

Good stuff. I have to believe his work permit will be approved by the transfer window. Link, Mike?

Actually, represented clients from Haiti and Central America in Immigration Court. Yes, it sucked then. Yes, I'm sure it sucks even worse now.

Bureaucracies tend to suck in general, so I'm not surprised. I was surprised that Cory Gibbs got in but Josh Wolff (who has been featured with the USMNT for a number of years and was in TWO World Cups) got rejected to go to Derby County earlier this year. Regardless, I found a link to what American Mike was talking about:

In the Times' daily look at the EPL, Fulham has agreed to a deal to sign Clint Dempsey...

(Hey, Lee Chun Soo is also available to leave. Does Fulham need another striker? One who was amazing in a video game a few years back? Too bad Portsmouth seems to be really interested, and tried to get him on loan once...)

I wasn't being completely serious. I knew I should have put in an emoticon or something. Not for nothing, Portsmouth is looking to drop 2 million pounds on the guy anyhow.

We have made a bid for Ray Jones from QPR. Their chairman is not happy as we only bid like 50,000 which clearly won't be enough. He is young and has played well for them this season. If we can sign him for 1M then we should.

We are also interested in Culina who I rate highly and especially at the 1M price tag. He is quality and would be a bargain.

Also we are supposed to be interested in Montella from Roma. I think he could finish the chances we create and would be a decent signing although he is kind of old now.

Fulham could be ready to launch a fresh bid for Simon Vukcevic in January.

The biggest worry when signing any overseas player is how long it can take to settle into the prem league. Many players find the pace and physical nature hard to adapt to, while strikers seem to have a really hard time.

In the last 10 years I can only think of 2 forwards who have embraced the EPL in their first season, Jimmy Floyd and Ruud Van Horseface - both Dutch, where the league is quite hard.

If Dempsey or Simon Vukcevic do come then we will need to give him time to settle.

I do not know either play to give a considered opinion, but it seems the closer to the strikers a player plays, the longer it takes to settle.

Dempsey is 23, and Vukcevic is 20, it is worth considering that it is not just a change in football style, but in lifestyle - they would be in forign lands without the support network that they have been used to.

It does not mean that I don't want either player, if they come then I will not exepect greatness from them straight away.

I agree GBFC. It is very rare for a player coming in from outside England to come in ripping it up right away. I have my doubts about those who feel players can and will make an immediate positive influence on a team. It takes time.

If you bring someone in during January from outside the UK, I do not think you will see that player at his best until the following season. Just my opinion.

Well, I agree with THAT... unless they are filling an injury slot.

That's how McB helped at both PNE and Everton.. and got MOM a couple times in both cases.

And while Elliot didnt exactly shine, last year.. he filled the role and didnt hurt.
