FORMER Scotland boss Craig Brown is on the verge of a return to football with Fulham.

Brown has turned down the chance to manage Australian side Perth Glory as he expects to take up employment with the Premiership club next month.

His new job title has yet to be confirmed, although it's understood Brown's brief will be similar to a director of football.

He will work closely with manager Chris Coleman and his Scottish assistant Steve Kean, a graduate of the SFA's coaching academy at Largs.

The 61-year-old was sacked by Preston at the start of the season and has been desperate to get back into football for some time.

Brown was one of three people interviewed by Perth Glory for their vacant managerial post and was contacted last week by chairman Nick Tana to say he'd got the job.

But much to the disappointment of the Aussies, who then turned to former Liverpool midfielder Steve McMahon, Brown told them he'd received a better offer to work with a Premiership club.
