It's been done, the second half of the Thames barrier has been released. Thanks for everything, Hangeland.

Sad day, though his best days are behind him. Will never forget his part in the Great Escape and the March through Europe, two of FFC's greatest achievements. Thank you, Brede.

What a titan. I started following Fulham in the 07-08 season, so, needless to say, Brede's a big reason of why I came to appreciate this club in the way I do.

Certainly, this is not the way he would've liked to go out, nor the way we'd want to see him leave, but for all of his loyal service and his genuine class...

I believe he's the last of the crew that was on Roy's first team squad. He was piss poor for the last season and a half, but you can't forget what he did with Hughes for us. There were two full seasons that I wouldn't have traded the Thames Barrier for any CB pairing in the Premier League.

Portland could really use a CB with his experience at the moment. Fingers crossed that Caleb Porter reads my posts. They are trying to get Lescott but I don't see that happening.

Guess there won't be a Hangeland's Farewell story on the website, a la Duffer. Too bad. And too bad his departure was mishandled somewhere. I may be naive, but I don't see how these things can happen so frequently. He deserves better, and so do the supporters who'll remember him in a positive light. Good luck to him.

Nice find Mo. Have to echo the thanks and service Brede gave to the club. The writing was on the wall since Dan Burn is a similar player and is ready to start. However, a few things bother me. He was under contract for 1 more year was he not? So no attempt to sell him? You telling me there isn't a team that wouldn't pay 1-1.5 million for him? Is his back so messed up that he wouldn't pass a physical? As far as releasing him by email, it's not the professional way to cut a player at any level of yhe club, let alone the captain of the squad. Perhaps Hangman was too honest with quotes about the chaos going on behind the scenes and got the brass upset, but frankly its not the class way to handle it and makes me wonder who thought that was proper way to go about it.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts - I have to believe that his back never recovered. So hard to imagine such a 180 turn in his quality in such a short time absent a nagging injury combined with age.

Regardless, I hope they give him a testimonial someday. He's earned it.

    Thank you, Mr. Hangeland.

So are we to believe Hangeland is lying when he says?
Regardless, relations were apparently very cold at the end. How things have changed from the happy little club I thought I knew. "personal protocol" ???

Could be. We're the ones who can only piece together little snippets of what takes place behind the scenes. Could be Brede didn't want to disappoint supporters by not wanting to commit to Championship and take his chances at another Premier League team by being released. If I were Brede, I wouldn't have released that statement if that's what did take place regardless. Move on, find a new team, and thank the fans...nothing else really needs to be said.
