At least it is something in the right direction...but just kick Jol to the curb already.

    A huge :text-+1:

    Here is a quote from that statement that is a disconcerting;

'we (him and MJ) share a vision of how football should be played, and how players should be developed.' :angry-banghead: OH :angry-cussingblack: we are doomed.

Makes some sense and I certainly hope you are correct. The MJ statue went away so maybe the MJ sourpuss will too

That is exactly what I was thinking. Hopefully Meulensteen will actually succeed in getting results with their vision and player development.

While I think this is a good thing overall for the club, query:

Would the Titanic not have hit the iceberg if it had two captains instead of one?

Does anyone have an idea of how this will actually shake out? Who will take on what responsibility? Who's handling squad selection? Who's going to be in the technical area giving instruction? Who's in charge on the training ground? Who's handling transfers?

Do any other clubs have a similar setup? To nev's point - are we steaming ahead even faster toward an iceberg?

Or, in short, what the hell is happening?

I guess we'll get some clues against Swansea. If Berba ever gets the armband again, I am just going to go with a) Jol is still in charge b)Rene really does see things the way Jol does or c)Rene sees things differently but can't do anything about it. So...I guess we'll see? :confusion-helpsos:

My heavens. A couple gems in there:

"Nielsen also spoke about training sessions where the players were juggling with the ball and Meulensteen would suddenly would jump in front of them and yell “BOOOH” in their faces."
    and
"Brøndby was facing Frankfurt in the UEFA Cup. Before the match started, Meulensteen gathered the players in the locker room together in front of a white blackboard. He then started pointing at the players and made them tell what kind of animal they wanted to be on the field."

My intitial reaction is that I've seen this shitshow before. A lot...the last 15+ yrs following the Cowboys and 8 yrs of Dennis Franchione and Mike Sherman at Texas A&M. This strategy was employed to "fix the problems" many times and it doesn't work.

So let's get this straight. The club believe that bringing in one "head" assistant coach is going to fix set pc defense, get us to start pressuring the ball on defense, clog passing lanes when we aren't pressuring it, have any semblance of a plan offensively (aside from Jol's "here's the formation, go out and do your thing and try and get berbatov the ball"), get players to provide off-ball movement on offense and to attack with more pace and to (dare to dream) shoot the f'n ball. It's also going to change the attitude that sees our guys walking and jogging about most the time and it will fix conditioning. Now I know one guy can't do all that. I rather doubt his addition frees up the other coaches enough to tackle even half of that, especially since they've failed so epically at their jobs so far. And where does that leave Jol? Still picking the team and doing so w/o any thought to matching up to opponents? Still failing to make in-game adjustments? Still making mind boggling substitutions? Or does Meulensteen handle that now too?

We're going down folks. The only thing I can find optimism in is that they might be putting themselves in a position to fire Jol if need be and have an interim staff in place. But that's probably just wishful thinking on my part. I'm pretty sure they think this is the right plan to see out the season and that it'll be enough to keep us up...and buys them time with a disgruntled fanbase. Good luck with that. I'm just about done.

I wonder if Khan truly, really understands that coming in as one of the last 3 in the EPL is a bigger deal than coming in in the last 3 in the NFL. Rebuilding years can become rebuilding decades. The Jags are 1-8. At least we've won 3 games.

Welcome to the site daddude. After watching that yahoo interview DCHeather was a part of, he seems like a hands off type owner who is going to support what the 'football' people recommend.

Yeah, that does make one nervous. But I am not sure you can put a lot trust in player's stories like these. I often think there's quite a bit of embellishment in these type of player stories--not that they're outright lies, but a there's a bit of fiddling with the truth for some more sales.

Khan knows the difference between the bottom 3 in the PL and the bottom 3 in the NFL, he said outright in the interview that Fulham could not do what they were doing at Jacksonville (which is rebuilding and playing for a high draft pick--he didn't say that, but you get the feeling that is what they want).

Ah.. who knows if JAX is really rebuilding! Strictly from the business side, it's tough as hell being an owner. You cant just steer your club the way you want, you got a GM and a head coach to deal with. All egos!
ANd mebbe starting QB to boot. See Patriots / Broncos. And Mike Brown of the Bengals illustrates you cant just short circuit the GM slot to success.

If I were Khan at JAX, I'd offer Jamey Rootes of the Texans a big chunk of the club to come over. And / Or sign Tim Tebow just for the gate / interest. You gotta sell tix to buy good talent. Draft picks mean diddly if you're bleeding revenue.
    - Yeah I'm a Rootes fanboy.. but his record speaks for itself. Name another GM he COULD also bring into his EPL org if he also wants some interest in NFL london franchise?!!
Fulham?!!! hope his alternative management paradigm works out.
Looks a lot like Crystal Palace to me.

Hear is my fear over all this. The dutch have produced some of the worlds best players for decades now. So everyone wants to tap into that. The Dutch also invented capitalism. My fear is far too much respect is given to that dutch coaching license and Dutch soccer pedigree and Dutch coaches like Jol and Mueulensteen are cashing in. They dont care, it's business. I've seen it at the youth level. We have blind respect for that dutch coaching license no matter how lame and lazy the coach is.
