Hope springs eternal..unless you're a Jets or Raiders fan  Not going to lie, I've been a Seahawks fan since their opening season back in 1976 and this is the most optimistic I've ever been. The NFC is loaded with some really good teams (especially in the Hawks' division), but nothing short of lifting the Lombardi Trophy will suffice.

AFC; Don't laugh, but I think the best overall team is Cincinnati. However, and it's a BIG however, I'm not sure if Andy Dalton is the type of QB that can take a team to the promised land. I'll go with Denver to start slow, but when Von Miller comes back they'll get hot and make it to the SB.

I do a volunteer gig here in the Peoples Republic where I read the news to the sight impaired. My regular partner also does a one hour sports broadcast every other week, and I covered for her on Sunday. Our main source of sports news is SI. Having read all of their NFL preview edition, all I can say is if you hate spoiler alerts, DON'T READ IT! Not only will they tell you who will perform well this season, but they''ll even tell you the final score of the Super Bowl.

That was good for me, though, since now I won't have to watch any of it; it'll all seem like reruns.

    Oh, and POINTY FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!

My teams are the Ravens and Cowboys.

In the AFC, I think Baltimore wins the division, but doesn't get back to the Super Bowl. Cincinnati has been the trendy pick to step up to the next level and every time they get close, they fall on their faces. So I won't believe it until I see it. I think Denver will make the Super Bowl from the AFC.

In the NFC, I've been let down by Dallas so long I have no faith in them. They always figure out a way to shoot themselves in the foot, so I don't think they'll make the playoffs. They have Dez Bryant, and he's a beast, but while great receivers are nice to have, they don't move the needle when it comes to wins. Just ask Detroit and Arizona. The Cowboys o-line has been a mess and they dug up a cadaver to take over the defense and change to a 4-3. Kiffin was fired from USC (by his son, no less) for his inability to stop the spread so sharing a division with Philly and the Skins seems problematic. I had season tickets for 5 years when I lived in Seattle for the Hawks, so I'm hoping this is their year. I know San Fran is the popular pick but my NFC pick for the Super Bowl is Atlanta.

Atlanta avenges their defeat to Denver in Super Bowl XXXIII.

Had some fun last night, as the loudest stadium in the NFL was rocking as my Seahawks kicked sand in the face of the bully and DESTROYED the 49ers, 29-3. It's early, and the offense needs to play better, but the D (minus 2 great players last night) is the best in all the land.

Denver looks the class of the AFC so far.

Have to feel good for the long suffering, but great Kansas City fans. Andy Reid and Alex Smith have got them going in the right direction.

5 SF turnovers made it a bit of a runaway. But good win for Seattle. With Jax next, 3-0 is a sure bet and a very good start.

Agree on KC. 2 wins last year, 2-0 start this year. Helps playing Jax and then getting the terminally .500 Cowboys in KC after a win. Off topic, but that bright red is doing Andy Reid no favors.

Like the way the Bears are playing. Yes, the defense looks only OK, but we lose the kinds of games we won under Lovie. If we work out the problems on defense, we are one of the best teams in football. We finally have a great offense. The only offense I would take over ours is Denver. Like the weapons we have and the QB is playing great football.

If I were more of a 'dispassionate' NFL fan, and seeing I've always been a fan of Big Ben', I almost feel sorry for Steeler fans.

    Not

heh... but not nearly as much as I feel for Browns fans. See they've started 'Rebuilding' already.

Reckon new ownership is a step backwards..Back to Cleveland Clowns... go figger.

Stupid is, is stupid does. definitely true on this one.

nothing seems to be changing in the mistake on the lake, unless perhaps things are getting worse. we now have casinos everywhere and our sports team owners are a part of it. yeah that'll fix things. and our new owner is a "former" steelers fan - time to get the pitchforks and torches going in the Muni parking lot.

I had to get a laugh when one of the Browns' big-wigs came out and said (with a straight face even) they weren't giving up on the season
Really? Then why exactly are they starting the 3rd string QB Brian Hoyer instead Jason Campbell who almost won the starting job in preseason? Could we please have some honesty and say; 'Look, we will be lucky to win 5 games this season and Trent doesn't really fit in the offense we want to run anyway, and the opportunity to get a #1 pick was too much to pass up'. A big problem is of course is that the better the Colts do, the lower the pick  It would never happen in a million years, but wouldn't it be great that aside from the fans of the visiting team that not a single fan would show up at the next Browns home game? What a fraud this year has become for those fans after only 2 weeks.

Only if you expected anything from the Browns this season to begin with, I guess. A number 1 for Richardson isn't a bad return. He's had injury problems, doesn't fit what they want to do going forward and his yards/carry numbers are underwhelming.

The new GM, Joe Banner, has a good track record and is stockpiling draft picks. I agree, on the surface, this sends a pretty bad message. But it may turn out to be a good move in the end. What they'd been doing prior sure hadn't been good, so why not blow it up? It's better to be bad than average, just look at the Cowboys.

Come on Aggie. We just want to see the team fight like anything and maybe walk away from some games this season feeling good. Fulham is and has for a while been average. Thanks for applying some logic to it, though, maybe it'll stop those "steeler" conspiracy theories swirling around in my head.

"Being bad is better than being average" only applies to a salary cap league with a draft. You've got a better shot at getting franchise changing players with higher draft picks. Of course, a good front office trumps all which is why teams like the Pats, Ravens, etc have managed to have extended runs at the top despite picking at the back of the draft. Obviously you don't want to be bad for long.

Obviously Fulham is in a different situation b/c we don't operate on a level playing field. We have limitations and most fans' reasonable expectations reflect those.

49ers' Aldon Smith collects his second DUI in the past year or so this morning...at 7am. :handgestures-thumbdown:

Given the beat down last week by Seattle, and a probably charged up Andrew Luck coming back to play Coach Harbaugh, this could be a debilitating distraction...or a rallying point.

The Jacksonville quarterback told the officials there was a strange white substance on the field. They called in investigators, who checked it out and reported that it was "the goal line."

Dont forget.. Jax is 'London's Team'

    Lol...

How about that Peyton Manning!!! I think Elway may prove an even better GM than he was QB.

And BTW... Maybe Cleveland's management is smarter than we thought. They ain't winless. Unlike the Giants and Steelers.

This is the week the Bears get to prove how good they are. I think that if they win at Detroit, we could be looking at a 12 or 13 win football team. They have the talent to do it and Trestman has a great attitude. Feels good to be a Bears fan and I'm liking the fact that people are finally starting to see how good Cutler can be!
