A REALLY short turnaround to host the Seagulls, against whom we coughed up a 2 goal lead back in September at the Amex, the result a 2-2 draw. Some things seem pretty obvious. Relegation is inevitable. Ranieri was the wrong choice to replace Joka. And there are going to be wholesale changes in the dressing room. So the question then becomes, when do you start preparing for next season? And how do you go about it? After today, one thing definitely needs to change: the people most responsible for keeping the ball OUT of our own net. Play the youngsters, give Betts another shot, put Billy the Badger in there, just don’t keep doing the same thing.
Oh, Brighton lost at Old Trafford 2-1.

If we had that I think last summer would be the preferred time to revisit.

Those 2 points we gave away back in September by blowing a 0-2 lead seems a long time ago, but damn I wish we had them. The sense of impending doom and what can go wrong will go wrong is hanging in the air. Just hoping for a break and a glimmer of hope.

These long seasons are maddening. I enjoy the glimmer of hope and promising signs of improvement, but I hate that these keep stringing me out and prolonging the emotional ride. I want that damn DeLorean. No, I need that damn DeLorean!

No changes and apparently no defensive subs.

It seems that we've had a couple matches recently that felt like "must-wins", and this one feels even more so (if you haven't just given up on safety already!). The sad thing is to think about the wasted opportunities of the last two losses - matches where Fulham had a lead. If they had managed to win both of those games Fulham would be a point above relegation and three points off 14th place. It shows how things could turn around, but also highlights that Fulham is not doing the things to turn around.

Fulham needs points, maybe this lineup (the same that started against the Spurs) can get the job done:

    Rico
    Odoi, LeMarchand, Ream
    Christie, Chambers, Seri, Bryan
    Schurrle, Mitrovic, Babel

Subs: Bettinelli, Sessegnon, Cisse, Cairney, Vietto, Kebano, Ayite

Is this the kind of result that can ignite a run. I’m going to enjoy this one and keep the optimism hat on for at least another week or two.

Was stuck in the Calgary airport and my App would not work so reliant on internet updates and could not watch. Step in the right direction is all I can say from just seeing the score line and after going down early. God I want to feel some optimism. Mitro is on my EPL fantasy team so that was a bonus. Please be the beg of a the great escape part 2

Well, whipsaw my damn emotions, wontcha! HatterMom is "enjoying" tax season and so I'm alone here watching the match on Gold and we go 0-2 down by the 17th minute. I'm pissed off and chewing my lip at half time, text HM the score and that I'll fill her in after the 90+.

Then comes the 2nd half -- we're confident, aggressive, quick to the ball and even VIETTO gets on the scoresheet and we win 4-2. I update HM who sends me texts with all kinds of emoji grimaces.

So, then I go to look at the table to see what the three points got us against the rest of the strugglers, and see that not only have Burnley taken a point at Old Trafford, but friggin' Newcastle beat Citeh.

Downer upper downer ... and all I got is coffee.

Hey, though, wasn't that second half cool?

Clearly for Fulham to stay up I need to stop watching. I suffered through the first half but then had to join a meeting for work. Once that meeting ended I saw that there were probably just a few minutes left. I thought I could stay in the dark and watch the replay "live on tape", but I decided to not prolong the inevitable suffering - I should just see how bad the damage was. I was floored to discover that in the hour I was gone Fulham had put away four goals and not given up one.

Like Hatter, I couldn't believe that Newcastle managed three points against Manchester City, and it was fortunate that Burnley only got one point. However, at the end of the day Fulham needed to win and they did. No complaining about that.

Highlights to enjoy for the first time this year:

I didn't take off work early today (as planned), because I thought taking leave a day after returning from a month long furlough, was a bad career move, but after getting my 3 year old to bed, and watching the replay, I realize I made a huge mistake. That 2nd half brought more joy then I've felt all season. COYW!

This side showed some character in this one. It would have been pretty easy to fold your tent, start the bus and start cleaning the golf sticks after the first half. But credit to Claudio, his staff and the players for coming out and ramping it up in the second half. Chambers’ unlikely goal was cool. Never seen anyone cock their leg that far back while stationary. Pretty sure he was as surprised as everybody else that it snuck in between the near post and the keeper. What else can you say about Mitro? The man is a beast. He just wanted that first one more than the three guys around him. And he probably fouled Dunk on the second. But props to Lee Probert for “letting them play.” Wish Seri and Cairney would have scored, but the bigger picture is simply this: we won a match we HAD to win, or it truly would have been over. It may well be anyway, but any sliver of hope is a good thing. The defensive issues are still there, but a clean “half” sheet and a roaring, come from behind four goal explosion can cure a lot of ills. We’ll see come Saturday at Selhurst, but, for now, let’s enjoy win number 4.
