That's 28 down, 4 to go. The biggest surprise so far? One could argue that it's the African contingent. Only Nigeria repeated from 2014. That means no Algeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast or Ghana. Quite remarkable.

Typical, the one tourney Ghana can't knock us out of is the one we don't qualify for!

The Swiss are a far better team in skill and to watch, but the Northern Irish got hosed on as bad a handball call (hit the defender on the back of the shoulder) as you'll ever see, not Thierry Henry bad, but pretty close. You'd think at this stage there would be video review.

With the right manager Italy is a true contender, they don't have one and are on the precipice. I still think they'll pull it out of the fire, but pulling for the Swedes.

Hands are ringing in Italian communities around the world. Maybe we can have a friendly with them now.

I'm going to start organizing "Not The World Cup". It will feature Italy, Netherlands, Ghana, Chile, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and the USA. The losers of the playoff games will have a playoff to round out the 8 teams. Two groups with the top two finishers from each group move on to the knock-out round to determine the "Not The World Cup" winner. Plus it won't be in Russia, it will be someplace nicer, like London. I'll need someone to give me about $250 million to get things going.

I couldn't believe what the referee was letting the Italians get away with against Sweden. Then I remembered what it's like playing Mexico at Azteca.

So long Italy and Ireland..or, excuse me, the Republic of Ireland.
That’s 30 of the 32. The final pair will, of course, come from the final round of interconfederation playoffs, one tomorrow and the last Thursday afternoon. The Socceroos host Honduras in Sydney after a nil-nil result in San Pedro Sula on Friday. It’s supposed to be on ESPN3 at 3:55 a.m. New Zealand travel to Lima after Peru also earned a 0-0 draw in Wellington on Saturday. You can look it up if you’re interested.

I've got an official name now for "Not The World Cup" it will be called "The Sippy Cup" because it is smaller and intended for those who can't handle a real cup. Despite no one stepping up with funding yet, I've put together the logo, tag line, and trophy!

Some free marketing advice, don't host in a country that is in the World Cup. You're attendance will probably be poor.
