Our metro (city) council voted 23-2 last evening to approve a $30 million bond issue and infrastructure improvements to fund part of the expense of building a new soccer specific stadium here. The club will spend $130 million dollars on the stadium and other developments at the site next to Interstate 64 on the edge of a rejuvenated neighborhood called Butchertown.
    I am very happy.

Excellent, that's great. You've got an amazing group of supporters in Louisville. One of my good friends that I travel to USMNT games with is from Louisville, heard a lot about the stadium deal from him when we were in Trinidad. Will have to get there for a match! Congrats on soccer growing in Louisville.

There were lots of reservations about the deal but, in the end, almost everybody realized that, one way or another, it had to happen. It's not perfect, but every time a community invests in the game like this, it makes it more likely that our national teams will improve due to the increase in exposure to the game. It's gonna be a long two years, but it should be well worth the wait. March, 2020 can't get here soon enough. In the past 10 years, Louisville has expanded Papa John's Cardinal Stadium once (it's currently undergoing it's second expansion), built the KFC Yum! Center and attracted a USL franchise. Now they're getting their own home. At the same time, my heart breaks for the loyal supporters of Columbus Crew SC. I went up there two seasons ago to see Landon Donovan play before he hung up his boots, and the atmosphere was phenomenal. I don't pretend to know much about high finance and owners like Anthony Precourt, who threaten to move a city's team as leverage for getting their way. I hope that scenario never occurs here, but it gives me pause that it could. For now, we'll celebrate and look to the future.
