The US men's U17 team has started the tournament with two straight shutout victories and are tops in the group thus far. The final group match is Thursday and a draw or victory will see them through to the knock-out stage.

Not sure how we beat Ghana this morning. I don't think this year's group is as good as the last couple. I just asked HatterMom "Is this Weah related to George?" when the announcer said he was his son. For those youngsters reading this, George Weah was arguably the best striker in the world 25 or so years ago. Imagine a guy representing Liberia winning the World Player of the Year award. His son's an attacking mid.

We have an excellent gk, a very good defensive mid, and some speed on the wings. Our lead striker is too immobile for today's professional game, I'm afraid. The good news is that we go into the last group match against Colombia later this week with 6 points and a +4 GD.

Round of 16: US 5 Paraguay 0. Weah with a brace (his second goal was a screamer) and Sargent on the scoresheet as well.

So, after dropping our last match to Colombia, we go against undefeated/untied Paraguay ...

and beat them 5-0 -- hat trick to Weah, and some brilliant midfield and wing play. After we scored our first goal, I thought they were going to run over us for the rest of the first half, but we weathered the storm and held out. In the second half, Paraguay went "all for nothing" and we picked them off for four easy goals. The two minutes of extra time was bizarre -- two teams passing the ball back and forth for 180 seconds. Nobody wanted to play it.

We get the winner of Japan/England Saturday morning 0920 central, Fox Sports 2. Watch the game. These kids can be fun to watch [also frustrating, but hey, we're Fulham supporters, so ... .]

Oh, and Colombia who knocked us down to second in our group? They lost to Germany 5-0.

If you can pull yourselves away from the Fulham match, the USA v England quarterfinal is being televised on Fox Sports 2 at 10:30 (basically now).

    Let's go USA!

England are VERY good. The ass whuppin' we took was appropriate based on the talent on the pitch. The "other Sessengnon" played like the little girl with the little curl. The USA are out, but I watched 4 of their 5 matches and they have some good talent. Let's hope some of them can pry themselves from their MLS ball and chains and get to Europe. Weah and Sargent will be there anyhow.

Don't have much to add to what Don said other to reiterate how good England looked and they where without one of their more heralded talents who had been recalled to Dortmund.

There is some attacking talent in this US group. It will be interesting to see how they develop.
