old timers will tell you -- too many free weights, too much interest in the body beautiful, and not enough stretching.

Reggie Jackson used to pull a hammy going from first to third on a single for the same reason.

Sometimes I forget that professional athletes are not the brightest crayons in the box. I play rec league (aka beer league) softball and it only took me a couple of games to realize the emphasis I needed to place on stretching my legs. I was so focused on loosening my arm that I hobbled around for two days after the first game. You need to learn to stretch and warm up properly, especially if you have had muscle issues in the past. I'm just surprised how often these issues arise among certain players.

More of Nigel de Jong doing Nigel de Jong things. He'll probably be suspended again, and I can only hope he loses his spot in the Galaxy starting 11.

Howard with the clean sheet in his debut for the Rapids. He's got something to prove in his mind (not in mine, he's a legend already) and MLS will be subject to his great vengeance and furious anger.

Haven't been following the sport as long as many of you, but if there's ever been an easier hat trick, I've not seen it. Helps when that pesky keeper ain't in the way...and you've got a generous, unselfish teammate...and the defending is best described as generous. Still, that boy ain't done...not by a long shot.

I think a large majority of Dempsey's goals are simple tap-ins like that. His talent has always been finding space for himself and making the runs that make shots like that possible.

Interestingly, Orlando City had a long unbeaten home record and were supposed to be terrific defenders prior to this match.

Oh, and the best thing about the hattrick is Morris shredding the defense. Good stuff for USMNT in the future.

The way he checked up on his run on that first goal was just brilliant. Still my favorite Yank footballer of all time. Just wish we would have discovered his talent sooner.

Here ya' go Don. Now this dirtbag can go terrorize some Turks. Perhaps the club can pry Rafael Marquez away from Atlas and market them as "The Red Card" duo.

To get what he deserves, someone needs to hack his twitter account and post some tweets supporting Gulen.

MLS Playoffs are here. @tim, are you heading to the Galaxy-RSL game? I like the way the MLS has re-formatted their brackets over the years (like the one game first round, and the Eastern and Western Conferences being just that, hated when a west coast team was in the 'Eastern Conference Final'). Not going to pretend to know what's going to happen, but will be watching.

Unfortunately I have an unavoidable conflict tomorrow night. But I'll be keeping a close eye on the score and hoping there are (at least) two more matches to come. I may even make the trip to Denver if that's the case.

@tim I'm going to try and make Sunday's game, so I'll text you if I do. Tim Howard, Jermaine Jones (probably as a late sub), and Kevin Doyle against Donovan, Dos Santos, et al....nice.
