And Colby Rasmus. I thought he was still in Toronto.

I read an article comparing the 2015 Astros to the 2014 Royals.

HD- I imagine some people are just learning the name McHugh.

Colby Rasmus is experiencing a power surge. I wonder how long he can sustain it.

Cue the Zeppelin for Kazmir's start!

Jays are on the verge of proving once again that trying to buy a championship at the trade deadline almost never works.

Viewing conundrum: Cards-Cubs at 5:30, Louisville City FC-Rochester Rhinos at 7:30 (streamed) and Our Gallant Boys against them Mexicans at 9:30. Anybody got any oxygen tanks? And a malted beverage IV drip?

That Chase Utley play was dirty & baseball needs to get rid of it. He didn't even start his slide until he got to the bag. I love the "I didn't mean to hurt him comments". Sure he did. What else does he thinks is going to happen when he barrels into a guy's legs full speed while the guy is pivoting to throw.

The older I get, the more baseball's archaic, meathead rules (unwritten or otherwise) annoy me.

I don't think he intended to injure but he knew there was a high possibility of it happening. They really need to change that rule. You should have to attempt to get the base, if you don't, you are out and the batter is out. It's really as simple as that.

Not sure I want this or not, but the thought crossed my mind, if you do a slide like utley did and the opponent gets hurt, why not suspend utley until tejeda is healed? It would never happen obviously but it would take out the "take out slide"

Hockey messed around with something like that. Not sure if they still do it, but it's fitting when you recklessly injure someone outside of the rules.

They've done away with taking out the catcher, I see no reason why they can't do the same for this nonsense.

I've been watching baseball for 150 years now, and I couldn't watch a replay of the Utley slide. Chase is a seasoned vet. He knew exactly what he was doing and what it should cost. At the least, the Dodgers should be fined a substantial amount - $1,000,000 sounds about right. Taking money out of the owner's pocket should get the word down to the field very quickly and very effectively. Since, however, the Commish is an employee of the owners, it ain't never gonna happen.

Keuchel is still perfect at home (crazy for a left-hander with that short porch in left).

Utley suspended for 2 games, which hardly seems fair since he's just a pinch-hitter at this point of his career. So basically MLB doesn't want him to show his face in NYC, but in case this series goes 5 he can play back in LA...B#@&$#^T!!!!!

The conspiracy theorist in me says you're right, Joe. It's about taking away the Mets' opportunity for taking retribution. I've never understood baseball's medieval unwritten rules, but even I know things would turn ugly if Utley turns up at Citi Field. I was watching the USMNT embarrass themselves, so didn't see it live but have seen it replayed countless times. 2 games is not enough.

It's getting stranger, the Dodgers are appealing the suspension, but for some reason that is unexplainable (aren't all parties in NYC??) the appeal as of this moment is 'unlikely' to be heard today, which by rule means he can play until appeal is heard...I think Private Hudson has a question for the MLB commissioner (who is it anyway? I think this guy has seen Goodell's folly and decided to take the opposite approach and remain underground):

Driving on the freeways for hours today and Dodger manager Don Mattingly is getting absolutely roasted by hosts/callers on sports radio. The basic issue (Dodger fans have never quite warmed up Donnie Baseball anyway) is not starting Utley, who had great career #'s against Mets starter Matt Harvey. Can Kershaw on short rest save the Dodgers season?

Cubs up 4-2 after 2 innings, w/the North Sidders getting all 4 runs w/2 outs and ignited by the pitcher Hammel's RBI single. The wind is blowing out, so there should plenty more scoring. If the Cubs can pull this off, it will easily be the biggest win in franchise history since 1908.

This is what drives me nuts about Dodger fans. Utley hit .212 on the season and .202 in a Dodgers uni. And I HATE the Yankees, but I think the world of Mattingly. Sorry, Joe, but my partner in The Tim and Bob Show is a Mets guy, and I hope they take the Dodgers out tonight.

Mattingly, in my opinion, isn't a bad manager. He studied under Torre and other great coaches prior to taking the Dodger gig. However, he's been given a long rope with the salary budget...and a complete stud pitcher that turns into, to steal from HD, a pumpkin in October.

I'm pulling for Mets also HD (Halo-Dodger fans have a healthy dislike of each other's teams). The pumpkin turned back into his regular season form and got the offense going with a 1 out single in the inning they scored all 3 runs. Heavyweight pitching clash in game 5...to see who hosts the Cubs.

Feeling so happy for the fans at Wrigley who got to see the Cubbies win a playoff series for the first time in the 101 year old history of the ballpark.

Congratulations to the Cubs and their fans. They dominated after Game 1. Still trying to figure out who those imposters were wearing the birds on the bat unis. Not the same team I watched win 100 games this season, but props to Epstein and Maddon and the Ricketts family for getting the north siders "relevant" again way ahead of schedule.
Pitchers and catchers report to Jupiter February 20th.

With a salute to Tom Boswell, it sounds like you've taken your first step into the void. There will be spring again.
