Probably the next to last update: finished 14-8-6, second in USL's eastern conference. Beat Charleston Saturday night a a chilly Slugger Field to advance to the conference final against Rochester, who won conference going away. 8517 showed up. I was stunned. Matt Fondy scored two in the second extra period to avoid a penalty shootout. It's been a highly successful first season, and hizzoner the mayor announced Friday that a committee will be formed to look for a site for a soccer only stadium for the club. The area has really taken to the these lads, and the sky's the limit. Gonna be a bit sad to see it ending soon, but there's little doubt footy is here to stay in the Derby City. Be looking for Fondy and a few other guys in MLS next season. They're good enough to be there.

I do a weekly gig reading the newspaper to the local sight-impaired community over a national radio network called Owl Radio. A while back, I read an article that sounded like the death knell for San Antonio ever getting an MLS franchise. Although our NASL club plays in a soccer specific stadium that is expandable to 20,000, it turned out that there was a provision in the contract the SA Spurs have with the city that they have veto power over any sporting venue that holds more than 15k. Since they lost the battle with a local philanthropist for the NASL franchise, I thought that MLS was a dead issue for the Alamo City.
Well, it turns out that our quest is alive and even more healthy. The best possible result for every local party has happened. Here's the article.

    Fingers crossed for us, please.

Fingers and toes crossed for the Scorps, HD!

We just finalized our plans on where to build the stadium for the future MLS Minnesota United, which was a welcome relief. Until that time though, see my signature for the NASL Minnesota United, the #3 seed in the playoffs.
