What a performance. Japan must have felt like a boxer that couldn't get off the ropes in the opening quarter hour.

Opposed to England's inability to put one away against Japan the US was expertly clinical in their finishing. I'm not sure I've ever seen a better opening fifteen minutes.

Boffo US ratings for the WC - even bigger than the NBA finals. I know that a few million people were into it just because they like to watch the USA win stuff (think of any Olympic sport), but it was still a good sign for the interest in soccer here.

This did however confirm a gripe of mine with Fox's coverage. I missed all the goals (hard to do in a 7 goal match) because I was returning from celebrating 'Merica in Philadelphia and I didn't get to a TV until the last part of the second half. I watched for an hour until coverage ended and I saw ZERO highlights. Me and 5 million other people who joined late had to resort to online versions of Lloyd's glorious half-field shot rather than seeing it in all of its HD beauty. I thought it was a given that after any game you show highlights! They can't assume everyone has been glued to the TV from the beginning. I appreciate Fox showing it, but I wish they'd revamp their approach from top to bottom.

Their comprehensive analysis, highlights & interviews aired for over an hour following the match on Fox Sports 1. No Lalas, either (replaced by Wynalda).

Thanks guys, but I'm a cord cutter (literally in my case, a storm knocked the cable lose from the house so I just chopped it off). If it doesn't come over the antennae or Netflix, I'm not probably not able to watch. On the plus side, I call Comcast every morning and remind them they aren't getting any money from me.

Pretty sure FIFA controls the feed and Fox just provided commentary. Of course, doesn't explain anything post-game. But I believe you can blame FIFA for the video during the game, so add that to the list.

Like Arya Stark I have my list of names for which vengeance is called for. Comcast and FIFA are on it. The NFL and the NCAA too. I go absolutely bonkers when something is available on broadcast TV, but I can't get it online without a cable subscription (sometimes the ABC channels don't come in when the ions in the atmosphere don't align - usually when FSU is playing in a national title game).

You gotta admit, Andres does love his work. You can just tell. Does he ever have an off game? Hard to imagine. Loved this, loved his call on Donovan's winner against Algeria in Pretoria.

Gotta love the fact the first women's sports team to get a ticker tape parade is a soccer team. Ah, progress.
