Speaking of new teams, Sacramento Republic FC is in its first season. They've had a couple crowds of 20,000, and are currently 4th in the 14-team United Soccer League (3rd division). They won their 3rd round open cup game 6-0; in the 4th round they're playing the Earthquakes in SF on June 11. Very good so far for a new team. I'll have to get out there and see a game.

Saw that yesterday and thought of you Jump.. That is great! Hopefully a youth DA Academy for Louisville will follow as they have some youth clubs that are worthy. Have fun and I'm very jealous. I thoroughly enjoyed Cleveland's team for two short yet very successful seasons. Where did it all go?? Soccer is cruel in soooo many ways :crying-yellow: :crying-yellow:

Just bought two general admission tickets for our franchise home opener Saturday for me and the missus. Kit reveal is today, purple is the primary color since we're Orlando's affiliate, so we'll see what they come up with. Supposed to be adidas, so won't be too wild I'm guessing. Hope it's got some flair, though...hoops maybe? Shot a story yesterday on the "excitement" rising in anticipation of the first match. Got to meet the coach and a few players. It was pretty cool. The baseball club at the stadium is being goofy about letting us shoot the field preps....they won't. Fortunately we share a helicopter with one of our competitors, so we got some aerials, but I really don't understand what's going on. Supposedly the Reds are behind the secrecy, specifically, the retractable pitcher's mound that's just been installed. They're apparently putting artificial turf over the dirt portions of the infield and baselines, which I wasn't aware of, so I'm wondering how that's gonna work out. Should be an interesting few days here, though. We'll see how things shake out. I went to a friendly they had with U of L about two weeks ago, and they made them look like kids, winning 3-nil. So, here we go....

Got two general admission tickets to the inaugural fixture yesterday...$15 apiece. The "expensive" seats are $29. Kentucky's not playing the Irish until almost 9 p.m. and kickoff is at 3. The weather's supposed to be dry but chilly, so we'll see what kind of support we get. Ought to be interesting. COME ON YOU PURPLES!

A quick update...we're 2-1-3, the loss coming on Derby Day at Charlotte. Went to the season opener at Slugger, a 2-nil win over Saint Louis FC. Crowds have been decent for the three home matches, considering school is still in here. Opener drew 6,067, the next two just under 5.000, which is supposedly the magic number needed to keep the team here and THINK about building a soccer specific stadium for them. The replica kits became available today at the team offices for Founding Members only. Season ticket holders, supporters club and partial season ticket holders will be worked in as the week goes on. Won't be available to the general public until Saturday. People are complaining because their $95, which is supposedly $20 more than the other USL kits. The fact that they just now got them, when they should have been available at, say, Christmas, is worrisome. The front office seems to be making a lot of mistakes, especially marketing, but support is still very strong. The proof will be when school lets out. If they don't reach the magic 5,000 mark regularly after that happens, two years at the baseball stadium may be it for this franchise. I hope not.

Another update: with 6 regular season matches left, plus an exhibition against Orlando, we're five points behind USL Eastern Conference leader Rochester. After a bit of a slow start, the team has gelled nicely and ran off a six game winning streak before losing to Montreal 3-nil on Aug 5th. 1-0-1 since, but you gotta check out this beauty from former Akron Zips star Aodhan Quinn Saturday at Tulsa. Can't hit a free kick any better at ANY level than this one. Made SportsCenter an everything!

That freekick was nasty. Love the bewildered reaction of his teammate (the one with his hands on his head).

Yeah, I went to the weekly press conference Monday and one of the midfielders, Niall McCabe, said the same thing. Head Coach James O'Connor said it was quality enough to have happened at the highest level in any league, anywhere. Pretty cool.
