I did a harangue on our Facebook page. I'm too pissed to repeat it here.

Links are for Pettyfog. Here's a cut and paste:

I had no problem with our performance against Colombia -- a truly magnificent football team -- but today's performance against Ireland was a disaster. There's only a half-dozen players who earned their money: Bedoya, Altidore, Diskerud, Garza, Johnson … okay, only five.
Another problem was JK's tactics. Every time we won a corner, we might just as well have kicked it out of touch and surrendered possession. Absolute garbage.

Klinsmann says US failed 'to digest' World Cup

"They have to learn emotionally how to digest a World Cup, and a lot of our players really had big problems digesting those extreme emotions," the U.S. coach said after Tuesday night's 4-1 exhibition loss to Ireland. "They dropped 20, 30 even 40 percent in performances in their club environment. Many of the Europeans lost their starting spot. Many other players in MLS or wherever went down 30, 40 percent in their performances and this is because they didn't know how to deal with all these emotions and all that recognition and all the compliments in the world that came after the World Cup."

"In a certain way it's human," Klinsmann acknowledged. "I mean, it's understandable."

    Hey.. ummm... jk...Maybe this?
Jordan Morris, a Stanford sophomore, entered in the 76th for his U.S. debut and became the 50th player to appear for the Americans this year.

I think Morris's first full cap while still a collegian is JK's response to those of us who've criticized his selecting players in the Bundesliga 2 and 3 leagues. "Okay, I picked a non-professional American. Happy now?"

And yes, we haven't fielded a "first team XI" since the cup ended, and I'm cool with that. It was yesterday's tactics that bummed me out -- especially our corners.

The World Cup hangover is such bull****. I can't stand how Klinsmann continually puts down American soccer and its players. He's supposed to be bringing the program up to a world class level but comments like this are counterproductive.

I agree 100%. His arrogance knows no bounds. It's only a matter of time before resentment begins to grow among the players.

Aww.. hell, they're all arrogant. And i dont care about bringing in a junior either. It's the claim that there's some kinda depression that gets me.

And if you keep mixing and matching, running in new faces, you're gonna get bad performances. Which brings us to 'club performance'. Yeah.. a team learns to play with who they got. And maybe there's a different style {certainly LEVEL} of play depending on who ya got. Even if it's only practice.
And maybe when someone comes BACK after several weeks off it doesnt quite click.

BUT.. Jk's who we got. We did pretty good with him, overall. And I'm not gonna say Sigi {for example} would be better.

Agree with 'fog. Our results are down to the mixing and matching of players. We put out a ton of rookies on this European trip and the results showed it.

Yes, JK needs to realize that it's his job to PROMOTE American soccer, not denigrate it. Having said that, MLS needs to listen to him about their schedule and the need to observe the FIFA international breaks. It's hurting the league and the USMNT for them to hold matches during international breaks -- especially during the Gold Cup and World Cup.

JK has been equally hard on the Euro-based guys. For as bad as the defense (Cameron & Besler had an awful night together) was, we did hit the post and crossbar in the first half, and Shay Given made a couple fantastic saves in the second (especially the toe save on Wood) otherwise that easily could have been a 4-3, 4-4 match.

2 cycles is a really long time, and it hasn't been too successful in the past, Arena had a disastrous 2006 WC, and Bradley got the axe shortly into his second stint. I honestly think what happens in 2016 at the Copa will determine if JK sees it through.

Further supporting my argument. How do Hamid, Garza, Rubin, Morales, Wood, Morris... and (arguably Altidore, Chandler, and Diskerud) have hangovers from an event that they didn't participate in?

If they're still hungover, I am impressed with their drinking skills. How much Cachaca did they imbibe?
