Wynalda Unplugged!
Some very interesting insights on MLS and the US team coaches, past and possible, from the only guy who's scored more US goals than McBride. |

Great article! PCB is probably the best drunken interviewer of our time.
A little surprised to see that, at the time I read it, 56% of the people chose the "edited" version.
Anyhow, everybody, go to the home page and read the article! |

I nagged the @$# out of him to write an article.. and it so happened that...
Now the REST of you get off your ##$#$ asses, or you can bleep my bleep.
{that's my topical humor, folks.. you have to read the interview}
And i had no idea that the 'net nanny' extended to the web site, not just the forum, or I wouldnt have gone to all the trouble. But I'll leave the edit version up a while to see what the hits are.
By the way, I dont necessarily agree with everything Waldo says in there {and I'm SURE PCB doesnt} but there's ONE thing I never saw discussed about MLS marketing {maybe it was, a long time ago and I forgot} but I agree with Waldo, it is a small but critical part where they are shooting themselves in the foot.
What I'm wondering is what will happen when Jim Rome hears what Waldo said. Ah... screw him, I hope Rome assaults him and Waldo decks him!

Good question, Mike. I was going to the US v. Ecuador match with my buddies anyway, and I had been thinking about doing an article for FUSA, 90:00 Soccer Magazine, and/or another publisher some time soon. I was considering writing an article just about our experience going to, surrounding, and about the match itself. Then one of the guys I was going to the match with, Jon Mayes, mentioned that Stone and Wynalda would be at a charity auction the night before the match organized by a friend of his who lived in Tampa and knows Stone.
Wynalda was extremely accomodating with giving the interview, and there is no doubt that he has thought about the issues and is quite passionate about soccer in the U.S. I just wish we had gotten a few better pictures.
Thanks Guys! |

Thanks, Tom! Surprisingly, while I had thought about quite a few of these questions before, I did not have any of them written down, nor did I know how I was going to layout the interview. But that is a testament to Eric Wynalda. The guys is so passionate that it infects those around him. Him and I were just feeding off each others energy and really trying to have an earnest and frank discussion about many U.S. soccer issues.
It was something I will certainly never forget. And you guys are the bomb for printing it! |

| Fantastic interview/experience PCB! The only other name that comes to mind that speaks with Wynalda's utter frankness is Johnny Miller. I was in the car the day he called in to Rome's show (not a scheduled interview) and he was great. Thought his comments on the US coaching situation very interesting, great stuff. |
