I've never been one to flinch when it comes to criticizing Fulham when I don't like what they're doing. But I'm not one to get too worked up when I think there's a lack of significant info.

What do we know (or think we know)? We were interested in Lambert but he signed with Blackburn. That means we would have had to talk with him last week. We talked with Pearson but those talks broke down. I'd suspect that started at some point last week as well & it sounds like it broke down Mon or Tues. Did we talk to anyone else that the media wasn't aware of? Rodgers was in town (probably coincidence). Whatever, we don't know.

Around the time the Pearson talks broke down, the Clarke rumors started gaining traction. But now, when it appears it was close to a done deal, he decides to stay put (allegedly over a fee we weren't willing to pay). Maybe Reading sprung that on us last minute. Maybe we should have anticipated that. Whatever the case, we got pretty far along in the process. And so it goes on.

You may be right & this is piss poor planning. But maybe not. We didn't find out about Bruce & the Group of 5 until well after the fact. There are probably things about this search that we're unaware of as well.

I share your concern over doing something desperate b/c we've done that before. Not sure we have since Rigg took over though. I know a lot of people think the clock is ticking b/c we have fixtures coming up, but I'd rather they get this right, even if it means a couple of losses. Either way, I see no cause for panic or doom...yet.

Just a normal cycle for a club that makes the top flight, but doesn't have the $$ to stay up permanently. I for one can't see why anyone would hate the idea of him taking over. He did an amazing job at Charlton over the 15 years there (his tenure at The Valley has to be ranked amongst the best in England the past 25 years ). He then went to West Ham mid-season, they go on that crazy great escape run with Tevez, Top 10 next season, then had that falling out with the Spam ownership where he sued and won. That made him persona non grata and is the main reason he hasn't been hired for all these years. He has done more than both Pearson & Clarke put together. I guess the main argument is 'he hasn't managed in years', I do remember Dick Vermiel coming out of a much long hiatus than Curbs and winning a Super Bowl. We aren't even sure he wants the full time gig, but other than Moyes who would be a better hire?

Thanks for refresher Joe. I think an article I linked earlier had Curbishley mentioning that he was interested in the position fultime, although there was no direct quote. Fulham just might back into a good fit? Guess we will see if he still has what it takes this weekend.

Talks break down, we can all appreciate that aspect of negotiations. If all of Fulham's targets, pre-dismissal of Kit, have backed away from the table, then it's somebody's fault, be it the prospective coaches, agents or Fulham. We don't know, but it seems a bit scattered from the outside perspective. Would've hoped to have something locked in prior to ... a week or so post-sacking of Kit.

I'm with Matt. This is the same thing we always see during transfer seasons.
    1. The lazy press says we're going after Joe Smith
    2. Joe Smith signs with somebody else
    3. Fulham's owner, manager, and board are incompetent. That's why Joe Smith didn't sign with us.

9 times out of 10, the club was nowhere near interested in signing Joe Smith.

Seems to me that we had to have an interim between Sanchez and Roy.

I'm not saying the press are inaccurately reporting who we've spoken to. Just that the info is incomplete.

Ray Lewington served as caretaker between Sanchez & Roy for 2 matches. We drew Wigan 1-1 at home & got smashed 5-1 at Spurs. Dempsey scored both FFC goals.

You make a good case Joe.

It was a mistake to ever talk to this guy. I get he's trying to get back into the Reading supporter's graces and don't buy everything this guy is saying...but why twist the knife in Fulham with this interview? Glad this guy fell through.

Well, since Peter Grant is in charge of the team that rules out Curbishley's chances.

Damage control to get back in his supporters' good graces. It probably won't work with the message board crowd, but likely appeases the rest. The English love hearing how great a job their club is & how it's better than ABC FC.

The only interesting thing is that they say Fulham agreed to the fee. Could be complete bollocks though.

I saw that too. But to me it's funny how he talks about "professionalism" while insulting a potential employer in his next breath. It's like Goodell saying the word "integrity" while in the middle of a lie. It's just too much. Good riddance.

And, really, Peter Grant is taking over training and the game instead of Curbishley now. Oh Fulham, I have no idea what the heck you're doing, but I sure hope you do.

Yeah, he most likely burned that bridge...but then he probably had to.

You'd think that move has tethered him to Reading until his contract runs out or they fire him.

Unlike most of the tripe we get from the British press this cites an unnamed source & supplies enough detail to sound credible. I'm pretty confident that came from someone at the Club. The press don't make a habit of rushing to a Club's defense in these matters.

This guy was on Cottage Talk and seemed to know what he was talking about. Credit to the club if it's true. Just like with relationships, it's always better when you're the one who calls things off. On Cottage Talk, this guy also gave some insight on other managers we've been linked to. I'll try to sum up what he said:

    - Moyes/Rodgers - Too expensive for us, waiting for Prem jobs to open (no surprise to anyone with realistic expectations).
    - Hasselbaink - He's supposedly linked with several jobs because his agent is throwing his name around, but Fulham aren't interested.
    - Jokanović - Outside possibility, but unlikely he would leave a team in the Champions League
    - Billy Davies - Mentioned this guy as one of several others we're considering (wouldn't mention all of them since he wants people to read his stuff). I don't know anything about him, but the Cottage Talk panel was horrified.

Though he wasn't mentioned by this writer, we're now linked heavily with Gary Rowett. Again, I don't know too much about him, but it looks like he had success at Burton in League 2 before taking over Birmingham when they were in a relegation fight and taking them to 10th last season. He also has them in a playoff place this season (7 points above us). Would seem like a good hire, but I'm not sure why he would leave a club he used to play for when he's in the top 6. I guess $$$ talks though.

Davies has had a lot of success at this level (with Preston, Derby & Forest) but his reputation is that he's cuckoo for cocoa puffs.
