Looks like I will get to a WWC match. The wife and I are heading up from Boston to Montreal in June to see U2 at the Bell Center. Wasn't even putting two and two together that they were going on at the same time until I was online the other day and saw something about tickets on sale for the WWC. They have a double header at Olympic Stadium that day and the first match is Brazil playing Spain at 4pm and the show starts at 730p. Not even sure what the second match is but we won't be able to make it.

Anyone else heading North of the border?

Sounds like a great trip Jim. Be sure to post pics from both the match and the show. Too bad the US aren't playing in the one you are going to, but Brazil-Spain should be a good one.

So the US women didn't play all too well in their warm-up to the WC. Oh well, here's hoping they put it all together soon.

I think we should get all self-righteous like the English and trash our womens team every time they DON'T win a tourney.

Hell no, that's one the big reasons why I can't stand the English Natinal team.

I just want to see the ladies play well and hope they do enough to win. You won't see me throw my toys out of the pram.

Well you might not want to have a disagreement in a bar with her, but hell if you don't want Hope Solo between the sticks for your team. Australia dominated the first 30+ minutes and if not for Solo could of scored 2 or 3 goals. We played much better in the second half and put them away. Sad to say, but maybe Father Time might be catching up to Wambach. The backline needs to tighten up, gave the Aussies way too much space, Solo can't bail them out every time.

Agreed on all counts, Joe. We were lucky go into halftime 1-1. But the Aussies couldn't keep up the pace and faded in the second half.

Here's my question. Wambach obviously had a bad game and if one bad game turns into two or three, what does Jill Ellis do? It seemed much of our offensive strategy was to launch long balls up to her, yet the goals came on passing plays largely on the ground. Do we see a change in tactics as well as personnel?

Not writing Abby off yet. Just empty speculation. Isn't that what this board is for?

As stated, the first half featured the worst midfield play I've seen from a USWNT 11 -- ever. We were lucky to win 3-1 and we did so for the reasons that we always win when we're playing badly -- fitness and discipline.

Oh, I'm still the president of the Alex Morgan fan club. I hope to see her start with Abby at some point. I think it's too early to write Abby off, but she is clearly not the player that she was before her injury.

Btw, is it necessary that Fox has to torture the viewing public with Lalas?? I guess we should be thankful he's not in the booth for the play by play.

As long as Lalas in part of the studio "talent," I will never watch a match live. I DVR and -- even if I start watching 20 minutes after kickoff -- I FF past anything Lalas is involved with.

I guess the writer thinks the game is 30 minutes long.

Former US coach/current Sweden coach Pia Sundhage pulling out all the stops in the mind-games category ahead of Friday's showdown in Winnipeg. Of course these comments got back to the US team. Pretty interesting analysis of the team and harks back to HD's view that the midfield was a mess (Lloyd playing out of position). Furthermore, it hints at a bigger issue facing the US team. Abby Wambach is 35 and should she be starting? Is she a better option than Rodriguez? Morgan will likely not be able to go the full 90 in this tournament so who will partner with LeRoux?

Not a surprising result considering how well those teams know each other. A useful point even though the central midfield play again needs to be sorted out. H

I thought it was a good 90 minutes over all. I DON'T understand how you can have multiple substitutions and two injuries which required physicians on the pitch and still only get 3 minutes of extra time, but it probably wouldn't make a difference.

Pia looked TERRIBLY stressed throughout, didn't she. If she ever gets an ulcer, I will be very surprised.
