MLS All-Star Weekend 2005

Postby RDG » Sun Mar 25, 2012 10:44 pm

Photos

So, one of these days I am actually going to move out of my apartment. Hopefully. In attempting to clear out crap, I have FINALLY downloaded all relevant files from my old computer (which is to be recycled) to the new(ish) one. This included the photos I have uploaded to my Photobucket account. These are some photos I took (and a few I did not) from the MLS All-Star game weekend of July 30 2005 which was against Fulham. Note that Cookie Coleman was the coach back then. See if you can figure out some of the people in the photos. The two godfathers should be in there somewhere, though not in the same photo. There's even one with "johhnycash", if anyone remembers him. Some people should get a kick out of them. We were all so much younger then. Actually, in a Fulhamish sort of way, that was an EXCELLENT weekend, though FFC got trounced on the day. I met up with new faces and made friends -- always a good thing.

Ahh, yes, the very original members of FUSA. I joined the board about 2-3 days before that game. Yes, I remember JohnnyCash, my fellow Wildcat. That was bizarre the day we found out on the board we went to the same high school during the same time. Shame you guys didn't get to see a better performance from the Whites that day.

Fulham needs to make another trip to the US.

Thanks for the photos, RDG. Good stuff. I had no idea there was a FUSA back then...

Awesome photos!

It kills me that I wasn't into soccer or Fulham back in 2005. I mean it was right in my own backyard!!!

Really hope they come back for a friendly against the Crew one of these days. I did get to see West Ham vs the Crew in 2008 which was pretty cool.

Great pictures, Thanks for posting. The only one I recognize is Mike. I didnt see you Rudy. Also there was a husband and wife team in Columbus, what were there names - big Crew fans. He used to occasionally post on the old site. I imagine they were in those pictures

I think it was Jux? I'm surprised you didn't notice ChicagoTom? He was in almost all the pictures with the sunglasses. Pettyfog's back was in one. And DaveNearDC and wife were in at least one.

That pre-dates my coming to follow the club as well. I don't guess someone who knows could id by picture who people are? Or if you look at this and see yourself, let us know what picture you're in? Mike's the one in the Expos hat, right?

Nope, that's ChiTom. Mo, I just thought you probably saw his picture from the original site? I never met him as well.

The one in the red jersey with the Expos hat is "mcbridesheader". He's Chicago Tom's brother, Mike. That day, there were no glasses dark enough for ChiTom, who had more than his fair share of adult beverages the night before. ChiTom had a crewcut and was wearing an azure FFC jersey.

Yes, those are Mr. and Mrs. Jux. They are great people, as are so many I met that weekend.

I purposely did not put names to pix, as: 1-) I did not want to make the time; and 2-) I do not know how people feel about their photo and name being put on a public site. As for me, I don't want either, that is why I did not post the one or two of me.

My bad. I recognized Tom in the glasses and the blue FFC jersey, but for some reason thought he changed to a hat and the red jersey at later point that day. They look a lot alike. Well, at least with a hat and glasses on.

More Pix

The above link is to more photos, these taken in January 2006 for the match on the 14th against Newcastle United. Not all the photos are mine, as the good ones were snitched from FFC's site. This was FUSA's weekend, where we met up at the Golden Lion beforehand*, then went to what is now McBride's Pub at the Cottage for post-match raffles and more beer. Another good weekend.

:obscene-drinkingbuddies:

Some of the photos were taken on the 13th on a stadium tour. I highly recommend a tour, as it is a lot of fun and whichever guide will spill out a lot of the history of the club and the grounds, as well as their own personal love of the club.

Again, I have not put names to faces, as I cannot be bothered.

Enjoy.

* That was kind of odd, as the place was packed and only regulars were allowed in. However, American Mike was easily able to get the owner to let anyone in using the passwords "American Mike sent me", which worked like a charm.

Thanks Rudy for posting, I remember the old site having many other pics from that match, very cool to see those again. It's been said many times before, but Tom if you're lurking out there and get the itch to express your opinion, we all would love to see it here.
