Blackburn lodge AJ bid

The Premier League strugglers have identified the 30-year-old striker as the ideal foil to Yakubu, and believe the former Crystal Palace man can help propel them away from the relegation zone.
Rovers are currently rooted to the bottom of the table, and could offer Johnson the contract that’s not been forthcoming at Craven Cottage in the hope that he can fire them to safety.
But with QPR also in the hunt, it may come down to who’s ready to match Fulham’s £2million valuation of the goalscorer, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Johnson struggled with injuries since making his £10.5million move to west London from Everton back in 2008, but a run in the side under new boss Martin Jol has seen him net 11 goals in all competitions this season.

I think this would be a good move for Blackburn, he would do well playing with Yakubu me thinks. And if AJ is going somewhere else, I'd rather it be Blackburn than QPR.

On a related note:

Fulham manager Martin Jol says he will do all he can to keep star strikers Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora.

The pair have been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks, with Blackburn reportedly having a bid turned down for Johnson.

“No (they will not be leaving), otherwise I will have to play up front. I need my strikers,” Jol said.

“I would love them both to stay here and of course if you could get Pele in his heyday or his young brother it would probably be different.

“I am happy with them and they work hard. Johnson is back from injury so it is only speculation.

“Of course there has been contact from other clubs about one or two of my players, but I don’t even want to talk about that.

“We will make approaches and other clubs will too, but there is not a lot of movement at the moment.”

There has been a lot of speculation in recent weeks, with Dnipro’s Derek Boateng and Catania’s Maxi Lopez being linked with moves to the club.

“There is always speculation in the paper and that will come back every day or every week,” he said. “That is not my problem.

“I feel if people want to speculate about that maybe there is not a lot to write about. But there is not a lot of movement, I will tell you that. There is nothing going on at the moment.”

I've always respected AJ for being a professional and his work ethic to come back from some major setbacks. The 10 mill. spent on him is an overall loss and obviously can't be recouped. While selling him for something in the neighborhood of 2 seems like a good idea at first glance, the club would have to shell out alot more than that to get someone w/his production. Unless there is an offer that management can't refuse, financially it might be better to let him finish the season and leave. One positive with that is there nothing more motivating than a player that is playing for a new contract.

To add to SCJ's astute observation, he always appears happy to play for the shirt - enthusiastic and ever-joyous after a goal. Look at how many times he jumps onto a teammate like a little lap-dog after a goal.

I truly hope we can keep both of them as well. We know what they're capable of, we just need to find a way to get everyone clicking at the same time.
