Change the forum style? *Looking for writers*

Postby admin » Sat Jan 07, 2012 1:22 pm

One of the things that has been annoying me about this message board style has been the way it expands too much due to the size of the font, etc. Is there anybody else that is put off by this? I really don't like the way it scrolls or expands on the screen or browser. I can easily change the style by a few clicks of the button...would it be ok with everyone if we experimented with the styles to see what everyone likes? Or is everyone ok with the way it is? :confusion-helpsos:

We are all so appreciative of the new site that I don't like to nitpick. You guys have earned the right to tweak as you please and I'm willing to bet that it would be for the better.

Joe, you're so diplomatic. ;)

Perhaps we can change the style(s) for a week or so and see which one everyone prefers? With the admin getting deciding vote, if there is a deadlock?

As you know, sir, I am loathe to express an opinion on anything, but I tend to agree with the distinguished Joe of SoCal. If you think it needs a bit of fine tuning, go for it. Just not every 35 minutes a la Facebook!

Although I'm not sure what you're talking about, I agree with the others. If something is annoying you, make whatever change you want to . . . other than banning me from the forum.

Ok, we will call this style #1. We'll have it up for a week then change it to one of the other default styles.

I generally like this style better than the last one, but I liked how it showed the most recent 7-10 posts at the top on all pages under the old format.

Yeah, I like this one better too. It fits better in smaller screens, especially mobile devices. I can probably rig something up to show the most recent threads or posts. But I'm wondering if it helps or hurts the amount of posts to this forum. I know we get a sizable amount of traffic and old posters have stopped-by, but they don't post anything or very rarely post something. I think we're stuck in catch-22 right now. People don't post because other people aren't posting. And that being blared across the top of the screen might not be helping matters?

On a related note...I was looking at the site through the way back machine:

http://web.archive.org/web/200709280439 ... amusa.com/

And this site used to generate a lot of unique content, and that was not just about Fulham. Quite a number of articles were about soccer in the US from youth leagues to the USMNT from a coach to a fan's perspective. If there is anybody out there that would like write "articles" for the hompage. Please let us know. We would like for FulhamUSA to be a community that embraces its members many talents. We want this site get back to its glory days, but that's a tall task these days, so we need a bit of help. Otherwise, it might be curtains for us?

Really like the new forum layout. Do you have control of the coloring on the headers? It might be cool to do black instead of the current blue.

If not, no biggie just wasnt sure how much customization there was

You can change the colors, but it takes quite a bit of time. It was one of the big reasons why I went with the 1st layout, it was already Fulham friendly colored schemed and had the option to display recent posts. My skills at editing .css or editing any .php files that run the forum is pretty limited. In fact, "google" is my pretty much my only help. :-|

No problem! It's great how it is too. I was just thinking it was as simple as some sort of drop down menu type option.

Simply, thank you all for keeping FUSA relevant. Site change looks good - old site looks good, that's why I'm easy...

One thing that I believe has lowered the posting is that people dont want to post about politics or anything that might lead to politics. I know politics can get ugly because people will feel judged but it does spark passion and therefore posting. Not saying we should go there like the old days, but I've wondered if this sentiment has caused people to stay away from all topics non Fulham or non sports related.

I used to post a lot on youth soccer but those that participated arent around anymore. Perhaps I'll try again and see who bites. I certainly would like to see the site healthy again so if anyone has an idea/wants to give me a job just suggest it.

More American players on Fulham would probably help increase traffic, but we all know what sort of problems that creates on other sites. ;)
