So Steve Nicol is out at Foxboro. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/s ... index.html? I always hoped that when he left the Revs he'd take over the national team. I know that every coach is hired to be fired, but I really don't know how the Revs could have done better under another coach.
Krafts seem like decent people. I say he fell, whatever that means. Some veiw him as a more old fashioned style coach, not the type to play the beautiful game. MLS is just trying to keep up with the trends. It's a shame the Revs dont have a decent stadium. I never understood the Patriots and now the Revs playing down in Foxboro when you could have an amazing atmosphere in downtown Boston. It would be fantastic.
Thanks for posting HD, the last site had a really good season long MLS thread (better get a playoff version going). Nichol couldn't make lemonade out of lemons and he'll be hired very soon. Thought he did a good job, but he deserves to go somewhere that doesn't play to 15,000 fans in a 70K stadium.
Heather, I remember years ago the drawings for a new beautiful soccer specific stadium in DC, what happened?
Well here's the wiki entry for the stadium that almost was: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.C._United_Stadium There's currently hope to build on Buzzard point or Capital City market in DC but we'll see what happens. I don't have any real hope for it to happen. Plus, those places aren't very umm...touristy. And DC pols need some "incentive" to vote a certain way. I won't be surprised if DC united move to Baltimore if a stadium deal does not get done in the next 2-3 years.
They looked at a football stadium on the water in Boston but local politics and neighborhood opposition got involved and made a mess out of it. In Foxboro Kraft already owned the land and if 70k will drive there, why buy more expensive land in Boston. As for the Rev's, as has been mentioned here (well the old site anyway) they are looking at Boston for a roughly 25k seat soccer specific stadium. But for now, with Kraft owning Gilette the Rev's can play rent free. Pay security, ticket takers, parking lot atendents, and some other costs and you can afford to have only 12 to 15k (or less in some cases this year) people come and watch a match. So why spend millions on acquiring land and building a stadium at this point? If you have not seen what the Krafts have done with the area around the stadium take a peek here: http://www.patriot-place.com/ and http://www.patriot-place.com/InteractiveMap.aspx I was down there today for a bit.
Re: Did He Fall or Was He Pushed?/DC United moving? Well, since Garber supports DC relocating if a stadium deal and/or lease deal can't be worked out...the move may come sooner and possibly somewhere completely outside the region. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/ml ... story.html
shrewd move by Garber. I hope it lights a fire under DC politicians and the movers and shakers. It would be a real shame if DC United relocated.
Look's like Jay Heaps will be named the new coach of the Revolution. http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer/blo ... _to_n.html
Wow. Zero coaching experience. Makes you wonder if the Krafts are just being cheap. Also didnt realize that Heaps played basketball at Duke, now that's impressive.
