Fulham manager Martin Jol makes bids for Wolves winger Matt Jarvis and Huddersfield's Jordan Rhodes

Martin Jol has made a £4.5 million bid for Wolves winger Matt Jarvis and is facing competition from Blackburn Rovers in his pursuit of Jordan Rhodes, the Huddersfield forward.

Fulham manager Jol is keen to offer Jarvis, 26, a swift return to the Premier League and tabled a bid earlier this week but Wolves have rejected it and are demanding at least £10 million for the England international.
Wolves have also turned down offers this week from Sunderland for Steven Fletcher and Stoke City for Michael Kightly and are determined to fight a rearguard action to keep their leading players at Molineux.
West Ham failed with a £4 million bid for Jarvis in June and Fulham have become the latest Premier League club to make a formal offer.
Jol has made an improved bid for Rhodes, the Scotland international, that could eventually rise to £4 million after his opening gambit was snubbed by the Championship club. The latest bid will see Fulham pay an initial £2 million with the remainder consisting of add-ons if it is agreed. Blackburn have also shown their intent by submitting an offer for the forward, who scored 40 goals in all competitions last season.
Steve Kean, the Rovers manager, will be without Leon Best for at least six months after the £3 million signing suffered a knee injury in Sunday's friendly against AEK Athens and has moved swiftly for Rhodes. Huddersfield value Rhodes at £6 million and Blackburn's offer is believed to be a guaranteed £3m down payment.

Have no idea if The Telegraph is a good source, but Jarvis is a very useful player. The Rhodes saga continues, just wish this would end one way or another. Biggest shocker in that whole article is Steve Kean is still in charge at Blackburn, the fans were about to mutiny on trying to get him fired, they get dropped, he's caught talking crap while getting hammered at a bar, and he's still calling the shots. Keano must have video of the Venky's owners saying they prefer Foster Farms chickens to their own.

Two very good players. I think that Rhodes is a potential 15-20 goal scorer in the Prem. Jarvis might have become a regular for England with a different manager.

The question remains, does what Jol said about British players -- overrated/too expensive -- influence the board's actions?

Lost out on both.

Rhodes has just completed his deal with Blackburn for 8m.

And, of course, Jarvis is at West Ham.

11 million for Jarvis (even though he's a solid player) falls in the overpay for English Player Dept. Rhodes for 8 is a major gamble. I only watched him play once so impossible to get a read on him (he was a non factor that day, in League 1 playoff final), but it's better for him to ply his trade in the Championship rather than riding the pine with us.
